NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil In ‘Do Me Baby’

Full disclosure: I bought this lipstick last December, but with all that’s going on I really haven’t had a chance to test it out! Although I’m not stepping out at the moment (and I’m definitely not going to be wearing a lipstick under my mask), I have started dressing up a little for video calls because makeup makes me happy. So without further ado, here is my review of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in ‘Do Me Baby’.

Like the other lipsticks in this range, this one too comes in the form of a chubby pencil. Whilst this is great for filling in your pout quickly, it does require sharpening, which ends up causing product wastage. The exact shade name is printed on the side of the pencil, whilst a colour band on the bottom end depicts the shade inside.

In terms of formula, this lipstick was easy to work with. The creamy consistency allowed it to go smoothly and evenly. However, if you do have chapped lips, this formula will tug at the dry spots. ‘Do Me Baby’ is muted pinkish-red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The colour builds up easily and requires 2 to 3 coats to reach full opacity.

I’ve been reaching for this lipstick quite often recently because I love the pop of colour it provides. The formula lasts on my lips for about 5 hours, with minimal fading. It’s not completely transfer-proof so you may need to touch-up the colour after a meal. Although the formula is neither hydrating nor drying, you should prep your pout with a good lip balm if your lips are chapped.

All in all, this lip pencil is a worthy buy. Since the colour is quite versatile, you can wear it alone during the daytime or pair with some bold eye makeup for the night. It’s definitely become a staple for me!
