Would you voluntarily put on a product that makes your partner gag due to the smell? I honestly never thought that I would… until I came across Biologique Recherche. The brand formulates some of the stinkiest skincare products that I’ve come across but the results they deliver make it all worth it! Since I’ve been dealing with a little bit of congestion lately, I decided to pick up a tub of their famed Crème Dermopurifiante. Here is my review.
The cream comes packaged in a plastic container with a screw-on cap. This isn’t my favourite kind of packaging because I hate dipping my fingers into a product repeatedly, so I use a small spatula to scoop out the required amount. I hope that the brand starts including a little applicator with the tub to prevent contamination. The directions for use and the key active ingredients are mentioned on the accompanying box.

Speaking of ingredients, this cream has some stellar ones. Niacinamide helps regulate sebum production and deals with pigmentation, while yeast extract purifies the skin. To soothe any inflammation and redness, Centella Asiatica and arnica have also been added. Apart from these, there are many plant extracts and moisturising ingredients (like glycerin), which make up the formula.
When it comes to the texture, this cream is quite unique. The velvety consistency allows the formula to spread easily, without feeling sticky or heavy. It’s the only cream that I’ve tried that absorbs completely and leaves behind a matte finish. I require a hazelnut-sized amount to cover my entire face. The only caveat is the scent. Since there are no added fragrances, this formula revels in its strong and funky fragrance. It does take a few minutes to dissipate but it’s definitely noteworthy.

I’ve been using this cream for 2 months now and all I have to say is – wow! Apart from keeping my face moisturised and balanced, this formula has helped clear up congestion around my jawline, without flaring up my rosacea or causing any irritation. My skin looks clearer and feels healthier, which is something I’ve always wanted. Since it does have a fair amount of actives, I use it every alternate night after cleansing. On other nights, I opt for a milder moisturiser. If your skin isn’t as reactive as mine, you can use it every night.
All in all, this cream is definitely one that I’ll be repurchasing. While it quantifies as a splurge, the results ensure that I can cut back on my other serums and actives so it’s a no-brainer for me!
