Review: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

When Drunk Elephant announced the launch of the Protini Polypeptide Cream, I took it as a sign. I had been on the lookout for a lightweight moisturiser for summer, but hadn’t found one that met my sensitive, combination skin’s needs. When Sephora’s annual Spring Sale rolled around, this was the first product I added to my cart. Here is my review.

The moisturiser comes in a cute, mint and white jar. The jar itself is airtight, which means that you need to press down to dispense the product. This unique packaging is a huge plus as it prevents the product from degrading due to air and light, and keeps things hygienic. The directions for use are printed on the back of the container.

On the formula front, this cream is a delight. The texture is quite like that of a thick gel and spreads easily across skin. The product absorbs almost immediately and does not leave behind any sticky residue. Although it does come out white from the jar, it rubs down to an invisible, matte finish. One pump or a dime-sized amount is enough to cover the full face. The product is fragrance-free.

Tiffany Masterson (the founder of Drunk Elephant) has likened this cream to the protein powder that you add to your smoothie – a comparison I totally stand by. After using it for a month, the most noticeable thing about my face is that it looks firmer and more toned. Gone are those pesky, dry patches and dull spots. In their place is a smoother, softer and more balanced complexion. What I love the most about it is that it has not ramped up the oil production of my skin or caused a single blemish, like so many moisturizers have in the past. It also wears beautifully under foundations and sunscreens, without caking or pilling.

Weightless, hydrating and refreshingly straightforward, this moisturizer is the one to have if you have normal-to-combination skin. Since it’s chock-full of amino acids and peptides, it does so much more than just moisturize your skin. Whilst it is definitely expensive, it’s safe to say that I haven’t found a single moisturizer that works as much as this one does!
