Review: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in ‘Rouge Gouache’ (#11)

‘I can show you the world,

Shining, shimmering, splendid’

Okay, maybe Aladdin was crooning these lyrics to Jasmine, but honestly, don’t you think the words apply to lip glosses as well?! Shiny, glossy and undoubtedly splendid, the invention of lip glosses have opened up our worlds! In honour of our gloss addiction, we are going to review our favourite gloss - Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in ‘Rouge Gouache’ (#11).

Like all YSL products, this glossy stain is packaged luxuriously. The chic gold and black rectangular box holds an angled sponge applicator that allows for precise application. The tapered tip makes sure that no part of the lip is left bare.

The gloss goes on thin and watery, but don’t be fooled! Within a few minutes, the texture becomes gel-like and glossy. We advise you to apply a second coat after two minutes to get an opaque, shiny finish.

On the colour font, Rouge Gouache is definitely not for the weak-hearted! A vibrant cherry red, with blue undertones, the gloss is rich and pigmented. The glossiness lasts for a good four hours, and after than it fades to a lovely red stain, which stays on for another three to four hours.

We tested it out over a greasy slice of pizza and were thrilled to see that barely any of the colour had transferred! The only downside is the strong scent of the gloss, but truthfully, with all the other plus points, we were willing to overlook it.

Although this gloss may cause a (substantial) dent in your bank account, we highly recommend that you buy it! Long lasting, lightweight and non-sticky, this juicy gloss made our pout look a bit more like Angelina Jolie’s. Brad, here we come!
