Review: ColourPop Super Shock Shadow In ‘Rex’

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow In ‘Rex’

Never judge a book by its cover

Whilst this saying holds true in nearly all aspects of our lives, we love that it also applies to our favourite bit - makeup! People often get tricked into thinking that products with lower price points are inferior in quality. However, brands like ColourPop are here to change that notion! Here is our review of the brand's Super Shock Shadow in ‘Rex’.

The eye shadow comes packaged in a white plastic pan with a screw on lid. The transparent top makes it easy to see the exact colour of the shadow inside. The shade name is printed on the bottom of the pan, whilst the instructions for storage are listed on the accompanying box.

What intrigued us to buy this product (apart from the insanely affordable price!) was the texture. Unlike any other shadow we've seen, this one is actually a mix between a cream and powder. In the pan, it had a bouncy, mousse-like texture, which transformed into a powder-like finish on our lids. Another major plus was that the soft formula went on smoothly, without any tugging. However, the payoff is uneven so you may notice some patchiness whilst applying it. Whilst our God-given fingers worked well to sweep on the product, we found that a flat eye shadow brush is the best tool to diffuse the colour. 'Rex' is a fierce black hue with navy and light blue sparkles. One swipe is provided a sheer, glittery finish. For a more pigmented look, you should apply at least 2 coats.

As far as the results go, we were quite impressed. The shadow stayed put, without creasing or smudging, for over 8 hours. Although there was a bit of fallout, we were pleased to note that the glitter particles did not stray away from our lids. To get the most out of the shadow, we recommend using a primer prior to application.

Long lasting, smooth and bold, this eye shadow is a real steal! We can't wait to get our hands on the other shades.
