Freckles are cute. Beauty marks are stunning. Blackheads? Not so much. Unless you’ve won the genetic lottery, chances are that your face has a smattering of these dark dots. Caused due to oxidisation of the oil and dead skin from your open pores, these pesky little things aren’t easy to get rid off. Rather than scrubbing your skin raw or worse, squeezing the life out of them, we’ve figured out a few amazing skincare ingredients that will banish them forever.
Although this ingredient is popularly used to combat zits, it works in a similar fashion against this skin issue too. Regular use of a mask or treatment with salicylic acid helps unclog pores and loosen blackheads. Whilst you can use a cleanser with this ingredient, we find that a leave-on product is much more effective. Just be careful not to overdo it so as to prevent your skin from getting irritated.
As it turns out, retinol is more than an anti-aging machine. Due to its ability to increase cellular turnover, it gently exfoliates skin to remove blackheads. However, you will need to be patient, as the results will show up only after a few weeks.
Another exfoliator, which works miracles, is glycolic acid. Since it peels off the top layer of your skin, it sweeps away any dirt and prevents your pores from getting congested. Limit your use to twice a week to avoid any adverse skin reactions.
Instagram is filled with images of #selfies with charcoal masks. Apart from being a cool, visual element, this ingredient is a wonderful solution for blackheads. The detoxifying properties draw out skin impurities to keep your pores ultra clean.
